The civil activities consist in Concrete Building E&I SHELTER BBVS-110, Beach Valve Station Pit, Steel Shelters, Traps Foundations, Piping Supports, Skid Foundations, Tank Foundations and Roads and Fence Layout, for an expected period of 6 months.
The Barzan Project is part of 1.3 billion maxi-contract for engineering, procurement, construction and installation signed by Saipem Spa with the joint venture Qatargas and Exxon Mobil.
The contract saw Saipem outperforming other big players like the American McDermott and the Norwegians of Subsea 7.
Overall, the Qatar Project has a value of 10.2 billion dollars and involves the construction of three offshore extraction platforms, a pipeline system for ground transportation and a liquefaction plant for the treatment of gas extracted from the reservoir of North Field, the world's largest non-oil reserve in the world.
The offshore facilities are located 80 kilometers northeast of the industrial city of Ras Laffan.
With an expected daily production of around 40 million cubic meters, the new plant should enable it to meet growing domestic demand for gas
