IDEA Connection enables engineers around the world to overcome the limitations of standard design tools and design any steel construction more economically and safer:

CBFEM - Component Based Finite Element Model
IDEA Connection is based on a unique analysis method called Component Based Finite Element Model (CBFEM).

The Component-Based Finite Element Model provides precise verification thanks to the synergy between the Finite Element Method and the Component Method.

IThe software performs a non-linear analysis in the elasto-plastic field and checks the individual components following the Eurocode or other international regulations:

    • The union is divided into components
    • The Finite Element Model is used to study the internal forces in each component
    • All plates are modeled using the Finite Element Method as elements
    • Two-dimensional shell, assuming an ideal elastic-plastic material
    • Plates are tested for limit plastic deformation (5% according to EC3)
    • Bolts, welds and concrete blocks are modeled as elasto-plastic springs
    • Each component is verified according to specific formulas as in the Component Method.

Application:
The software finds application for the structural design of steel, steel-concrete, steel-wood connections with any geometry and type of 2D/3D loads.

Shear connections, moment connections, with braces, base connections, performed according to:

    • Non-linear analysis in the elastic-plastic field of steel profiles and plates, verification of bolts with tensile/shear interaction or pre-loaded, anchoring (regulation updated to EN 1992-4) and welding
